Are you a Twilight fan?

Whether you like or love the Twilight series you should come to Modesto Library's Teen Twilight Extravaganza. The event will be on Monday, November 16 at 4 p.m. in the downstairs auditorium. There will be trivia, discussion of all things Twilight, and a chance to win tickets to see the new movie, "New Moon."  And of course, food and drink will be provided.

Naming Contests

 Names are an important part of a person's identity and animals need names too!
Children ages 3-14 are eligible to participate in November's naming contests. One entry per person.

The library is planning an Anime Day to take place next year.  We've got lots of great ideas, but we're looking for input from teens.  Help us out by taking a survey.

It sure is wet and windy out there! The Empire Library and Riverbank Library have been closed today due to power outages.

Read for the Record

Break the world record with us!

On October 8, 2009, Stanislaus County Libraries will be participating in Read for the Record, an international campaign to bring children together with valued grownups in their lives to read the same book, on the same day, in communities all over the world.

Visit the library to hear The Very Hungry Caterpillar read by librarians, elected officials, police officers and more! Reading times will be posted at libraries and on our website.

 

Don't Let the Pigeon . . .

Mo Willems, author of Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus and Knuffle Bunny will be giving a tour of his studio via live simulcast to the Modesto Library. We were one of only 200 library & school venues to be chosen to participate in this unique experience. For more information call 558-7810.

Art Walk

The Modesto Library is now a stop on the 3rd Thursday Art Walk in Modesto.  Last night was the first night and it was a great success. Kate Pethoud displayed her sculptures and was on hand to talk with people interested in the art.  There were also art and sculpture books on display and available to check out.  Take a look at our pictures from the event on flickr on the side of this page.

It is time once again for our Dinner Theater. You provide the dinner we provide the theater.

This is a special family program for children 6 & up. Space is limited. Sign up at the Children's Desk to get your free tickets. Musicians Margie Butler & Paul Espinosa, of Golden Bough, will perform Irish and American folk music in this exciting and interactive concert.

Free advance tickets are available at the Children's desk now
through September 14.

All Kids' Craft Fair Sign Ups

Sign ups begin August 29!

Kids ages 7-14 can apply to sell craft items at our annual All Kids Craft Fair. Young crafters will showcase their talents and learn about sales, customer service and business, while having fun. For more information please call 558-7810.

Free applications will be available starting August 29 and must be turned in by September 19.
